Well, I started listening to this show and found it rather good but I found this episode to be really bad. When dealing with the “Church taking man’s money” story, one of you started the whole “Churches aren’t all bad” debate, which is an interesting one. However, it seemed very out of place in the discussion, forced into the news story which features a clearly undefendable act by a church.
If you wanted to have that debate, fine, I would have listened to it happily. However, it sounded like this:
- This church took all this guy’s money.
- Well, churches aren’t all bad, it’s HIS fault.
- WTF? Why are you springing this debate up now, we were discussing the news item.
- Yes, but I’m saying they aren’t always bad.
- But they took the guys money, this news is clearly not an example of that.
- Well, yes, but…
It sounded completely forced into the discussion. To make matters worse, you didn’t even go into the debate. It’s like you wanted us to be aware that you know it exists, then moved on.
Sexondly, the whole Jon Stewart thing. You guys didn’t even mention that antimatter isn’t the same as dark matter. This has happened before. You need to get your science on. At least, read about the relevant stuff before podcasting. It’s not the first time I’ve heard you get some scientific fact completely wrong. I don’t remember which podcast it was, but you were discussing something for 5 minutes that made absolutely no sense because neither of you knew what you were talking about.
So…
My point is that the podcast is fine, but it could be great (i think) and in this episode I felt that you were trying to do something, you weren’t sure what, and all that came out of it was simply unfunny, with completely forced discussions and positions. It felt like you were acting, badly, and you knew it, but you didn’t want us to know.
I’m gonna give it a last shot. Maybe in the future you’ll get better or something.
